Eclipse Club Team Info

Eclipse will offer teams for the U14, U15, U16, and U17 age divisions in the 2025-26 club season. Our teams participate in the Puget Sound Region Power League, which consists of a Seeding Tournament early January, then roughly one weekend day per month, January through early May. We will also participate in 2-3 regional tournaments. We will post all schedules once the club season kicks off.

The cost for the 2025-2026 season is $2500. This covers team membership dues, tournament fees, coaches pay, gym rentals, background checks, administrative fees, equipment, medical supplies, and player packs.

Registration with the Puget Sound Region/USAV is required and not part of your club dues. Please visit the Puget Sound Region Volleyball website to obtain your membership. Membership with AAU may also be required depending on the tournament schedule. Travel expenses to regional tournaments and meals are not included. Post season tournaments are not included.

Practices are held in in various schools around the Monroe area. Our practice facilities are operated by our local school districts. If school has to be canceled on a given day (for example, for bad weather), district policy requires that we also cancel or postpone our activity. When that happens, we will make announcements via our website and on social media as soon as possible.

Practices will start at the end of November and run through April. We will post more information on practice times and locations once we get closer to the start of the 2025-26 club season.

All players trying out must have a copy of the following forms on file with us. If you submit these to us electronically, we will confirm with you directly that we have it on file and you do not need to bring a hard copy. If you do not submit electronically with us, you MUST bring hard copies when you come to tryouts. If you think you submitted electronically but did not receive confirmation from us that we have it on file, please reach out to us at info@eclipsevbc.com.

  1. Eclipse Volleyball tryouts registration form
  2. USAV Participation and Medical Authorization form
  3. Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Acknowledgement form
Please be dressed in athletic clothing that allows you to move comfortably - leggings/shorts, tshirt, court shoes (close-toed, gym-appropriate), etc. Knee pads are highly recommended. Don't forget a water bottle, and always bring a positive attitude!

Be ready to work hard and have fun! Our coaches only have a limited amount of time to evaluate all players, so will be running fast-paced drills to see each player's skill level, attitude, and ability to work on a team. We will assign each player a number before tryouts begin in order to keep track of names. These may be pinned to your shirt with safety pins, so please wear something you don't mind having pins in. Give us your best effort, but don't put too much pressure on yourself! We want to see your highest potential, and we understand that nerves may get in the way of performance. Don't sweat the small stuff - attitude and confidence are just as important as physical ability!

Tryouts will be closed to parents - no spectators are allowed inside the gym where tryouts are held (you may stay in the lobby or similar area, just not courtside). Please stay close by in case a player or coach has a question. If we have a large number of players trying out, we reserve the right to dismiss a few players early in order to maximize the time we have. We will try to have someone from Eclipse around to answer questions, but please understand that all our coaches will be very busy running tryouts!

After tryouts are concluded, coaches will make one of three decisions:

  1. An offer to sign with one of Eclipse's teams - this comes with an official Letter of Commitment that, if accepted, is a contract between the player and Eclipse. Congratulations! This means that should you choose to accept, you are officially part of the Eclipse family. You may choose to accept or deny on the spot, however players have 48 hours to officially make a decision. If we do not hear from you within 48 hours, we will offer your spot to another player.
  2. Waitlist (alternates) - we may offer a player a spot on our waitlist. This is not an official offer of commitment; however, should a spot become available, we will reach out directly to our waitlist players - so, please be patient! Players with offers have 48 hours to make a decision. If we do not hear from them, we will be reaching out directly to alternates with an offer for a spot.
  3. No offer - unfortunately, we may not be able to offer a spot on a team to every player who comes to tryouts. If we do not make an offer, we will try to provide feedback on opportunity for improvement. Players who do not receive offers are still welcome to sign up for our clinics or private sessions to prepare for future tryouts!

CLUB VOLLEYBALL FAQ

Here are answers to some common questions about club volleyball. If there is anything else you'd like to know, please contact us directly!

Club volleyball gives players an opportunity to play volleyball outside of their school season. In order to be part of a club team, players must try out and be selected. Clubs are independent of each other and may participate in various leagues (such as Power League) as well as independently-run tournaments (such as the NW Jrs MLK Weekend Tournament).

Once selected to be part of a club volleyball team, the season consists of a set roster of selected players, a consistent practice schedule, and competitions held over the course of approximately 4-6 months.

There are several formats for club volleyball tournaments:
1-day tournament
A 1-day tournament typically consists of 3 or 4-team pools. Each team will play every other team in their pool, followed by bracket play. A 1-day tournament typically runs an entire day, starting around 8 or 9am and finishing around 5pm, although may go (rarely) shorter or (often) longer depending on how long matches take. Matches run back-to-back, meaning the next match will start as soon as the current match ends, whether it is ahead of or behind schedule. Teams can typically expect to play 4 (sometimes 5) matches in a 1-day tournament.
2 or 3-day tournaments
Longer tournaments typically have shorter days, with pool play for the first day or two, and bracket (playoffs) play on the last day. These tournaments usually have two waves: an AM wave and a PM wave, where an AM wave typically plays during an 8am-2pm window, and a PM wave plays during a 3pm-9pm window. Similar to 1-day tournaments, matches run back-to-back and the next one starts as soon as the current one ends.
Tournament responsibilities
In all tournaments, teams have the responsibility of working (reffing) matches for other teams. At the beginning of the season, each player will be required to get USAV certified in line judging, scorekeeping, libero tracking, and being an R2 (down ref). Teams will be assigned to work matches and must delegate players to handle each of these roles. During tournaments, teams can be expected to either: play, work, or be off. Play means they play the match, work means they are reffing a match for other teams, and off means they have a break.

We hear you! All of us would love to save some miles and time. There are a few things that affect tournament locations:
Club Affiliation
There are different governing groups that clubs choose to affiliate with. These groups provide clubs with all the necessary legal stuff, such as insurance and medical liability coverage. Examples of these groups are USAV, AAU, and JVA, among others. Eclipse is affiliated with USAV (Puget Sound Region), which means we are able to register for any USAV-backed tournaments and be covered by USAV. However, there are other tournaments that are affiliated with other groups (such as JVA). If we were to register for these tournaments, we would have to not only register the club with the appropriate group, but also purchase memberships for both coaches and players. As you can imagine, this would get quite expensive, not to mention time consuming (more mandatory training to complete for both players and coaches), so we have decided to stick solely with USAV-backed tournaments.
Availability/Competitiveness
USAV tournaments are limited in our area. Most are based in the South End (Tacoma area) or Eastern WA (Yakima/Spokane area), as those are where there are larger volleyball facilities available. Additionally, many tournaments do not offer all age divisions - we will see the 15s age division play up in a 16s division, and 17s play up to 18s, etc. There are times that playing up an age division may not be the most ideal for our athletes in terms of fun or competitiveness, so for those reasons we may choose to not participate in these tournaments.
Power League location assignment
Power League tournament locations are assigned based on rankings and facility availability around the Puget Sound region, which changes through the course of the season. Many of these tournaments are held in local schools that also host other sporting events, so locations for these are not determined until a few days before the tournament. Ultimately, tournament locations for Power League are determined by Puget Sound Region Volleyball, and are beyond Eclipse's control. We like to cross our fingers and toes a few days before these tournaments and hope we get assigned close to home!

Tournament locations are usually released a few days before the day of the scheduled tournament start after rankings are finalized leading up to the event. Schedules and locations are updated on the SportsEngine website for the relevant event.

Tournaments are held in various locations all around the Puget Sound region, ranging from south Puget Sound (Tacoma area) to as far north as Bellingham.

1-day tournaments will usually be held in one location. Multi-day tournaments can be expected to be in different locations on different days, possibly even on the same day.

Players must be no older than the maximum age of a team before the club season cutoff of July 1. For example, to be on a U14 team in the 2025-2026 season, a player must be a maximum of 14 years old before July 1, 2026. If they turn 15 before July 1, 2026, they must play on a U15 team (or higher).

Players are allowed to play for an older age group (i.e. someone who is 14 may play for a U15 team), however must go through the same tryouts for the appropriate age group and be selected. Players are NOT allowed to play for a younger age group (i.e. someone who is 15 may not play for a U14 team).

Specific age cutoff dates can be found here (updated annually).
